Helped my Asd/adhd son read
These are so simple and build in skill so slowly. They are great. My 8 yr old has been struggling to read. But learning how to sound a few cvc words and he can read an entire book! That really motivated him. He went through all of these books in a few weeks. So we are done with them. So worth it.
Great first readers!
After my 5 year old got most of her letter sounds down we started going through the Bob books, starting with Set 1. Our tradition was for her to read a story (almost) every night before I read something to her (sometimes I'd let her re-read something she read before, or I'd let her off the hook if she was really tired -- wanted to keep it positive). The books start super-easy, and they progress very slowly. After about 8 months we got through all the books and she can now tackle level 1-2 easy readers on her own. Learning to read is an enormous feat, and these books help parents guide kids through it systematically and at their own pace. I strongly recommend everyone goes through the whole series and then passes the books on to someone else!
Love, love, love Bob's Books! (Educator approved)
I cannot say enough about Bob's books. I taught my son had to read using every single level and I use them with my students as well. I recommend them to my friends and parents of my students. I really can't say enough good things about Bob's books. It features repetitive reading. Children do not move on to the next level until they have mastered 100% accuracy.
Get them, and they will read - It really needs 100 stars!
If you have a child that is starting to read, get these books! The progressive nature of the series allows young people to feel a sense of accomplishment without being overwhelmed. We have given several sets of these books to our family and friends who have little people and they have all reported great success. I don't really care to listen to an inexperienced reader (makes me cringe) but the books move along fast enough that they don't overwhelm the child (or bore you stupid). I can't say enough good about this series!
Simple stories, simple pictures
These books are perfect for the child who is learning how to read. Nice short stories with simple words. I wouldn’t say the stories are phenomenal pieces of literature or anything but they do the job. Included with the books are good reading hints like “when there is an e at the end of a word, the vowel in the middle is usually a long vowel.” Simple pictures that look like a kid drew them.
Excellent
This is a nice progression from the previous sets. It follows along with what they are learning in school. The only con: I'd prefer one book to focus on one long vowel sound and its multiple spellings. When we were studying long E, I had to use 2 different books, one for ee and another for ea and e_e. "Joe's Toe" has Long O spelled oe, and long I spelled i_e. "Chickens" was much better, it focuses on Long A spelled ai, ay, & a_e. I wish they were all more like "Chickens." You might also want to look at "Now I'm Reading: Amazing Animals" in addition to Bob Books Set 5. Each book focuses more on the multiple spellings of each long vowel.
Targets the Skill
These are so great! Long vowels are sometimes the hardest thing for students to understand. It just takes practice and these books really target the specific words that they will need to practice. The rest of the words are easy sight words, so they can focus on the long vowel ones. I saw great success with my students.
Highly recommend these for beginning readers!
Bob books are great for beginning readers - easy to learn words, not too many words on a page, not too many pages, not intimidating to beginning readers. They have been really helpful in getting my first grader on the right path to becoming a good reader. If there is one criticism, the subject matter of the books gets a bit boring. But....highly recommend ALL Bob books.
Excellent
My daughter started using these books before she started kindergarten. This set of books (all five volumes) are awesome. I recommend these to anyone with a child learning to read. Starting with book 1 from the first set, my daughter has read through the whole series, mastering each book, in about 4 months. I loved how each book built on the last one, it was so easy for me help her move forward. She loves reading and is very confident and not afraid to try new words. I just wish there was more books to continue building her skills.
Granddaughter LOVES these books!
Bought set 1-5 for my granddaughter and she loves them! She has her mom let me know when she needs the next set. I think that says a lot when a child is asking for the next set of these books. Very happy with my purchase
